English

English is taught every day in all year groups from Year 1 to Year 6. Also, in Early Years, children have reading and writing activities available to them every day. You can download copies of the our English curriculum, the Early Years reading and writing objectives and the national curriculum for English at the bottom of this page.

One aspect of English is reading. At Nonsuch Primary School we teach reading through a systematic phonics-based approach using 'Big Cat Phonics'. Please speak to Miss Raggio or speak to the school office if you would like to find out more.

Children progress through the reading scheme before they become 'free readers' when they are confident, fluent readers. We use a variety of reading schemes to supplement the children's reading, with Oxford Reading Tree books being the ones you will find in your child's bookbag most often.

Below you can view an overview of different aspects of our English curriculum, broken down by year group.
