Flamingo Class

Welcome back !

It has been a busy week and the children have returned ready to learn for their last half term in year 1.

The children greatly enjoyed the trip to Wisley and found out about different plants and vegetables. They also experienced planting a french bean which was sent home for the children to observe the changes.

Thank you to the parents who joined us for the trip.

Next week in Maths we will begin looking at time and learning how to read o’clock and half past the hour. If you are able to please practice at home how to read half past and o’clock, focusing on the minute hand and hour hand.

P:E kits have been sent home this weekend. Please could they be returned for Tuesday. I apologize they were not sent home at half term as this was meant to happen. The PE kit may need to be checked to ensure it is the correct size, particularly footwear.

Next week we will be conducting the phonics screening with all of the children.

This will be the final phonics assessment before they enter year 2 and therefore is important they try their best to show their full capabilities.

A pack has been sent home with words to practice this weekend if you choose to. Thank you for those that have sent in examples of the cursive handwriting as it has helped the children to develop their writing.

It has been lovely to see pictures of the children participating in ‘30 days wild’. Please continue to send in pictures.

The children have been using the year 1 writing checklist to edit their work in order to improve their writing. This includes

full stops and capital letters, finger spaces, describing words and punctuation such as question marks and exclamation marks.

If children complete any writing at home please encourage them to check for the above.

If your child would like to bring in an item for show and tell this will be held weekly on a Friday only. This is a chance to show items of interest such as something they have created, achieved or pictures from a recent trip. We will do our best to share them with the class.

We continue to prepare for the phonics screening which is in June. These words are examples of  words used in previous screenings. Whenever you get an opportunity please practice reading these words:

rainbert

liss

charf

prind

snorm

flisp

shaish

plear

grelt

If you read at home with your child please

can you record this in their contact book as

then the reading books can be changed.

Can you please make sure the children have their PE kits in school for every Wednesday and Thursday.

If you have any questions please let me know. We hope you have a lovely half term.
